Download: Supportive Meal Planning on GLP-1s

Updated Mar 13, 2026From Megan Ostler, RDN

If you’re taking a GLP-1 medication, changes in appetite, digestion, and energy are common. Meal planning on GLP-1s isn’t about strict rules or eating perfectly. It’s about using food as a support tool to help you feel more comfortable, nourished, and steady day to day.

How food can support you on GLP-1s

GLP-1 medications slow digestion and affect hunger and fullness signals. Because of that, certain food choices and eating patterns can make symptoms feel easier to manage.

Supportive meal planning may help with:

  • Nausea, reflux, or stomach discomfort
  • Constipation or irregular digestion
  • Fatigue or low energy
  • Feeling overly full too quickly
  • Difficulty knowing what or how much to eat

Food is not a fix for side effects, but small, gentle adjustments can often make a noticeable difference.

What “supportive meal planning” means here

These meal plans are built around flexibility and realism, not perfection.

They focus on:

  • Balanced meals with protein, fiber, carbs, and fat
  • Simple ingredients and familiar foods
  • Portion sizes that feel more approachable on GLP-1s
  • Meals that are easier to digest and spread throughout the day
  • Options for both individuals and families

You do not need to follow a meal plan exactly for it to be helpful. Even pulling one or two meal ideas can be enough.

GLP-1 Support Meal Plans

Below you’ll find four supportive meal plan options. All are designed by a registered dietitian and intended to be used as guidance, not rules.

GLP-1 Support Meal Plan: 1200 Calories (Single)

  • Designed for individuals cooking and eating on their own
  • Includes simple meals and snacks spread throughout the day
  • Emphasizes protein, fiber, and gentle digestion
  • Helpful if appetite feels very low or meals feel overwhelming

GLP-1 Support Meal Plan: 1200 Calories (Family Dinners)

  • Designed for individuals who share dinner with others
  • Allows you to eat the same dinner as your family with small adjustments
  • Focuses on balance rather than separate “diet” meals
  • Helpful if you want structure without cooking multiple meals

GLP-1 Support Meal Plan: 1800 Calories (Single)

  • Designed for individuals with higher energy needs
  • Includes more variety and slightly larger portions
  • Supports energy, fullness, and nutrient intake
  • Helpful if fatigue or low energy has been an issue

GLP-1 Support Meal Plan: 1800 Calories (Family Dinners)

  • Designed for shared meals with family or partners
  • Prioritizes flexibility and realistic dinners
  • Allows you to adjust portions without changing the meal itself
  • Helpful if you want support without feeling singled out

How to use these meal plans

There is no “right” way to use these resources.

You might:

  • Follow one day as written
  • Mix and match meals you enjoy
  • Repeat the same few meals that feel good
  • Skip meals that don’t sound appealing

If symptoms flare, it can help to slow down, simplify, and return to foods that feel easiest to tolerate.
